| no partners | | Back in December, I had noticed a small CCC building on SoMo I’d never been to before. Finally decided to head over to it today. Up Telegraph. Hot. No breeze. I had grabbed a pair of shoes I hadn’t worn in a couple of months, not since Joe’s favorite hike of the year so far out in the Goldfields. I quickly remembered why I hadn’t been wearing them—the tread has very little grip left.
Once up Telegraph, I headed east on National, glad to be away from the Telegraph hikers. First I went over to the old lookout (Old Holbert?) perched above Kiwanis. I like the area around that old lookout since a lot of desert trumpet grows around there. No firemen today. From there, I walked the Summit Rd east for 0.60 miles to the CCC building. If you know where to look, you can catch a few glimpses of the building from the road. There’s a distinct path heading north from the road, about a tenth of a mile directly to the building. It doesn’t seem like it gets a ton of traffic, but there was some garbage and broken glass. Surprised to see a partially intact roof.
From there, I retraced my steps back west on the road, hopped onto National, then back down Telegraph. Hotter. Saw one chuckwalla, but he was too fast for a picture. Made it downhill without falling, so that was a plus. Those shoes are now downgraded to dog walking shoes on pavement only. |

Wildflowers Observation Light Some flowers still hanging on along National, but probably only for a few more days. |
