| partners | | June in Arizona is canyon season. At least it is in most years. This year it rained and runoff filled canyons with muddy water. WCC only spiked a little bit and looked like it had returned to normal flow within a couple of days. So we headed out on a three day adventure through a stretch of the canyon that none of us had done before.
After setting a shuttle we dropped in via a steep route that gets to the bottom in no time. We were happy to confirm that the water was running clear and proceeded to begin the arduous journey downstream. Apparently as time passes, I tend to forget what an amazing piece of the world this place is. Every turn presents an amazing new scene and while travel is slow and a lot of work, the cuts, bruises, and the poison ivy rash are still worth it. The plan adapted as we went along and we didn't make it as far as planned. Luckily we found an unexpected exit option that turned out to be just short of vertical, but also worked out. It only took about an hour of cross-country navigation to get down to where the shuttle truck was parked.
