| partners | | Spent a couple of days exploring WCC. Camped near Supai. It was extremely pleasant.
We started super early so I had time to cross off a section of the canyon that I hadn't been to before. I now only have about 10 river miles between the Point Trail and the Cash Tank/White Box access to get to. There are a few canyoneering routes in there (Wilbur, X-pine, etc.) so I should be able to knock those out too. And I've never done the stretch from Bull Pen to the Verde, which I sort of think doesn't count, though apparently it's cooler than I had previously thought. Add it to the list!
After my visit a few weeks ago, I paid a lot more attention this time to the flood damage from February. It's significant. I'll put a few before and after photos at the end of the photo set comparing this trip with last fall. I looked up the stream gauge data to see that this was the biggest flood since 2005. But going back 50 years, this volume of flood is typical about every 5 years. But since it's been nearly 15 years since the last one, it perhaps made more of an impact this time? |
