| partners | | up Miller creek trail to Manning Camp for the night, then down the ridge to the Turkey creek trail. walked the 2.5 miles back to the car also. this hike is a leg burning climb that relentlessly pushes upwards to the 8000' level.
I enjoyed Miller more than Turkey - mud spring was flowing slightly and deer head was bone dry. water was found at Manning and there are also some sort of canvas shelters equipped with thermarests and cots. fire rings, picnic tables and pit toilets... Free!
it was the most well equipped campsite id seen for backpackers. Ken invited us to stay in one of the canvas "qwanza huts" but i carried my hammock shelter all the way up there, i was gonna sleep in it! (and I did) |
