This turned out to be a terrible route -- about half the hike was side-hilling on steep, rocky, and brushy slopes. The worst part was below the summit block, where I had to traverse around from the south side of the summit block to the north side. There was some scrambling to get to the summit, but I did not do anything that was remotely sketchy and it was barely class 3.
There were great views at the top and I enjoyed being on the summit.
If I were to do the hike again I would start from NE of the peak. That route is longer with more elevation gain than what I did, but you'd avoid lots of side hilling on the rocky and brushy slopes. Plus you'd save the $10 fee that the park charges! |
