| no partners | | I was looking for a long-ish hike and thought of the Weaver's Needle Loop. There were a lot of cars at the trailhead at 8:30am on Sunday morning, but still a couple of open spots. The air felt cold at the start and I wore my hoodie to keep warm. I wore long pants and was glad that I did. The trail was a little overgrown in places and I had to push through plants that were impinging on the trail in lots of places.
The steep climb on Bluff Springs trail warmed me right up. Once the trail got into the sun it felt much warmer. I encountered very few other hikers on the loop which was great. Saw just a few wildflowers in bloom near the start, but there were more and more as I got farther along the trail. Near the northern end of the loop there were areas covered with bright yellow brittle bush flowers. Since I was hiking alone I stopped a lot and enjoyed the views. It was a very clear day with no clouds in the sky at all. I took a long lunch break at a camp site just off the trail at the corner where the trail turns south. During that break no other hikers went past. I took a couple obligatory photos of the Needle at the saddle, and then headed down to the finish. It was a beautiful day of hiking in solitude in a beautiful place. |
