Back on my quest to finish hiking every official trail in the Superstitions, Andy and I headed out to Peralta TH Sunday morning for a nice loop. We decided to do the loop CCW with Bluff Spring>Terrapin>Dutchman>Peralta trails. The climb up Cardiac Hill at the start always sucks but with the sun not up yet it wasn't as bad. As we got to Terrapin and started the climb up, the sun came up above the cliffs. Up and down the roller coaster on Terrapin until you get to Terrapin Pass then it's a steep slippery walk down to the Dutchman (I felt like I was ice skating a couple of times on the way down) :scared:. The Dutchman from Terrapin to Peralta was the section I was missing and was a pretty easy gradual climb over upper Upper Black Top Mesa Pass. We took a break in the shade once we got to the Peralta Trail and started the long climb up. This section to Fremont Saddle completely dragged as it was a pretty warm continuous climb up. Checked out the Siphon Fire burn area, as normal the fire destroyed some sections and missed others. There were some sections where the fire made it below the trail but for the most part, it stayed higher up. Made a stop at the old Piper camp and I bushwhacked and rock-hopped down to the spring area while Andy watched from his Lazy Boy. Finally made it to Fremont Saddle, which to my surprise was not nearly as busy as I expected. Even though the hike from the Saddle to the TH was all downhill it dragged as we were both pretty warm and tired at this point. Saw one hiker on Peralta near the Dutchman junction, then up on the Saddle were the shirtless guys and yoga pants girls taking selfies as usual. In the home stretch now with only a couple of miles of trails left. Thanks Andy for joining.
