Did this hike with my wife and kids to get out of the heat from Phoenix. This trail is fairly easy, although the mild uphill gain is a bit of a challenge for small kids. There are also quite a few fallen trees across the trail, making it even harder for little kids. The end of the trail before it reaches FR651 fades away, likely due to overgrowth from a previous fire. We took FR651 back to the Sixshooter Trail, making a loop back to the car. The uppermost section of the Sixshooter Trail is also quite a bit overgrown right before it reaches the Lower Ferndell RA parking area. Overall, the hike was very nice, with alot of shade and cool breezes to spoil us until another week or so when the temps out here reach 110.
