Of course once you get south of Ahwatukee Fraley's puffy white clouds jump to cue and it was looking to be a good photo day. Although I hesitated at the driving distance it wasn't too bad. Met Preston in Benson and we headed down.
Didn't expect to be walking through dense young aspens five miles from the border but hey this is Arizona right! The wildflowers were just flat out wild. The ridge over to Miller Peak looked like a yellow ribbon. At the peak we could see storms pounding the west and heard a little thunder. The temp dropped into the 60's and I started having second thoughts on that jacket...
Baby you can drive my Carr! The storms faded and it all turned out good, I'll be back for sure. I would rate this like the upper Catalinas with a touch of Pinalenos. (Much nicer than the Ritas IMO!)
I adjusted the page data. It is 2,000 via Sawmill. Carr Peak TH sits about 200 ft higher so it's an 1,800 ft jaunt if you go that route (which we did).
Sierra Vista is more of a city than a town. Wiki estimates 2008 population at 46k! |
