I parked way down there because I was hiking with 2 people on horseback: my dad & my son. How else can you do a day trip to Reavis with a six year old & a sixty year old?
The hike was beautiful & my son did awesome on his first big adventure. His only complaint of the day was about all the catclaw on the trail. We had lunch by the old cattle loading chute in the shade of the walnut tree. There were walnuts all over the ground, but none on the tree.
The apple crop was decent. A few trees had great years and were loaded with ripe apples, but most were completely barren. We picked some apples to bring back for the rest of the family. When we got home, we decided to make apple pie (see pics). It was a fun trip, but we regretted parking so far away. I think that the best place to park a horse trailer on that road is on the left side of the road, just past the first cattle guard after the junction to Woodbury TH. I don't like to pull a trailer all the way to the TH because of the hairpin turn & how steep that last mile is. |
