Joe, Nick, and I set off on the West Baldy Trail at 8 am, and made the white man's summit just before noon, with plenty of photo stops along the way. Temps at the summit were not too bad, but the wind chill felt like 20 degrees, so we did not stay long. We could not find a register in the massive cairn, only a pencil. We headed down East Baldy Trail, stopping to see the plane wreck and to enjoy the awesome views from the Chiricahua-like rocks. The pace was quick, as I had to be back in Safford by early evening (sorry for that, guys). We got back to the trailhead just before 3 pm, and Nick and Joe headed for home. I went east, and got stuck in the highway 273 paving mess en route to Alpine . The back road country was incredibly beautiful, though! I drove home through Luna and Glenwood, New Mexico: a pine country drive the whole way and very pretty. Sitting here writing this, I am bored out of my skull. I want to go back! |
