Started just before 7:30am where the wind was howling in the already mid 30's weather, guess winter is here this week. Went up the wash and up the rocks to the first ridge where it seemed like the peak was still pretty far away. Made my way along the ridge and enjoyed the views along the way but not the wind chilling my body. From a distance the mini Baboquivary looking peak looks rough and very exciting to go up, but once you get to it there is nothing hard about it. You can easily make it up the peak from the north enjoy the views on top and skirt right down the south end to the peak behind it. Plus the views are better up there and makes the trek more exciting. While on top had to dodge the wind as it was flat out bone chilling once I worked up a sweat. Headed back the same way and came down a different wash about a 1/4 mile east and finished on the road back to my Jeep and then headed over to the Flatiron. Nice off trail trek that doesn't involve anything too difficult that most should be able to handle. |
