| no partners | | I started out at the lake shore to catch a sunrise, but I guess all the color was south and over the mountain. Started out hopefully, but it was very sublte.
Once that was out of the way, I met my hiking friends to see if we could hike up the ridges south of the lake. The goal was to make it to the start of the ridgeline that goes to the peak. We fell a little short and ended up exploring the area between the first two ridges. My friends kids were not happy with my "trail" choice. ha ha. Yeah, seeing as there is not really a trail, I can see why.
A nice day to be out. It was a little toasty towards the end, but a steady breeze and the sun on our backs helped out. We made it to the first ridge and decided to go explore what we thought was cave. It was an up and down path to the cave that turned out to be just a small alcove. Interesting area up there. Lots of tuff to climb and great views in all directions.
We all noticed the huge amount of yellow sphinx caterpillars out there. Looks like a "plague of hummingbird moths" is coming our way.
We made our way back down and to the pull out on the 88. They went to Tortilla Flats for 1/2 price breakfast (August only, sorry) and I made it home to finish off the Honey-Do list I attempted to ignore yesterday....ha ha
I will make it up to the peak one of these days. Today was not that day. Perhaps when the temps drop a little and I go it alone without my hiking "family" (Mom and Dad would have made it though). |
