I wanted to get a glimpse of the massive Bush Fire but stay close to town so I chose to do it from Thompson Peak. Coming across Dixie Mine trail is less than exciting but once you hit that steep service road, you have no choice but to be engaged in the task ahead of you. There's no route finding necessary and no treacherous exposed areas to be concerned with but that climb up that road will definitely remind you that this hike is for leg day!
