| no partners | | Had some chores to do at home over the weekend, so hiking on sunday was the only option. got to "sleep in" a little and started on the trail just at dawn. Parked at the new Bush Highway Trailhead that looks to have been built by Maricopa County, so no Tonto Pass necessary. A new trail spur was built just across the street from the trailhead so you dont have to hike a quarter mile on the berm of the road to get to the other entrance trail across from the defunct parking lot.
I hiked the Hawes Trail almost to the microwave tower. just before that junction, there is a lasso loop trail that I've never seen before. I did that and decided to head back instead of going to the microwave tower. Saw the junctions for the newly built trails and some newer unofficial trails.
Most bikers on the trails. all were nice with the exception of one guy who was a little overly aggressive with the downhill speed and personal space while zipping by.
Overall nice hike close to home with a decent mileage and AEG and time to spare for the rest of the day. |
