| partners | | Wally, Andy and I went back to finish this hike that we half heartedly tried 2 months ago. The weather was a bit warmer, which didn't help, but didn't make things much worse either with the light clouds and breezes.
Saw a big overnight camping group only a mile from Peralta TH on the LDT. Hiking down Whiskey Springs we saw what we think may have been Reavis' ghost.
Upper LaBarge Box was the scenic highlight, although the steepest section. The catclaw on Red Tanks has never really bothered me and I don't understand all the hate I hear for this trail.
Heading down from Red Tanks Divide was a bit of a slog, seemed to take forever. Saw a few interesting caves, though. Once we got Randolph Canyon, things got better.
Coffee Flat is ok at first, and gets harder as you head west. Transition is from flat, smooth dirt to steep and rocky. Wally spotted a rattler and then showed us the petroglyphs near Reed's Water.
LDT back was uneventful, other than fatigue and soreness. Renfest traffic was better than expected, thankfully. Had dinner at Rudy's BBQ, welcome treat earned after a long day. |
