13 years since I hiked the Mormon Trail, seems like I never did it because I can barely remember it. Started about 5:45am in the dark. First 2 hikers I saw were coming downhill with no lamps in total darkness :-s . Saw a few more heading downhill, must have got an early start to finish early.

Got up to the National Trail and took a left into Hidden Valley, bypassed Fat Man's Pass. Some of the slick and polished granite in Hidden Valley made for a bit more hazardous conditions with the damp sand everywhere.

halfway into Hidden Valley I took the rough route up to the Guadalupe Ridge and hiked that over to its junction with the National Trail. I hadn't hiked on Guadalupe Ridge in about 10 years, so I forgot how much bouldering is on this trail/route. It ended up taking more time that I had intended but at least that was out of the way early. The cooler morning weather and dampness also helped.

Took the National over to Corona de Loma and headed down. Along the flat portion of Corona de Loma I was passed by a trail runner with no shirt, no water, and smoking a cigarette :o . One of the odder things I've seen hiking.

headed up Corona de Loma east and quickly got off trail, heading up the canyon when the trail cuts to the south a bit and out of the canyon. There is a faint trail in the canyon, but it was getting fainter the further up I went, so when I caught my mistake I just doubled back. The ascent back up was slow as the sun was heating things up a bit by now. No hikers or bikers along this trail at all.

got back on the National and headed back. Walked back all the way through Hidden Valley, then made a left and got on the Mormon Trail further down. From Hidden valley to the trailhead it was steady traffic, pretty much all hikers.

the lot was full when I got back and the late arrivals were circling like vultures for open spots. Best views were of the mountains to the north newly covered in snow from the storms the night before. Nice workout hike on trails I haven't done in a long time, got nearly 3K' AEG

Hikngrl and I met up for lunch last week (after a really long time of “life getting in the way”), and decided our next get together would be for a short hike. Quick Google search decided Fatman’s Pass was the destination! Perfect day, not TOO warm, and fun hike! We followed up with lunch at The Farm Kitchen (aka The Farm at South Mountain),

My grandson Isaac joined me for a sunrise hike at south mountain. The trail was in the usual shape. ROCKY. Started early to beat the heat. Nice to have Isaac join me. He is busy these days! 😁

In a roundabout way this was one of the harder hikes I’ve done. I got to the Mormon TH just before 5am to find the gate already open for me :) Darkness is becoming more common for my early morning hikes, but I’ve found this is one of the easier “nighttime” hikes. The city lights and the moon (if there is one), do a fantastic job of illuminating a rocky but worn path. No problem starting out in the dim light at 5am. It was a very cloudy morning and I was hoping for a good sunrise. It did not disappoint. I found myself in one of those rare situations where I was torn between wanting to stand and watch a fiery morning, displaying an array of colors from deep purples to incandescent oranges to actually doing the hike I had planned. I did my best trying to do both. Back in the day, you could waste a roll of film on an event. I felt I could very have wasted a memory card in trying to capture the morning show. I always enjoy doing the Mormon Trail and Hidden Valley is always a treat. I was fortunate that these trails allowed for decent sunrise views, so I was able to get the best of both worlds.

The chuckies were active within Hidden Valley and along sections of the Mormon Trail, as well as a large, nonaggressive bee swarm on a ledge at the south side of the tunnel. Because of the extreme heat, completed solo without Dese as an out and back because silly shuttles are for the Fossil Fuels Rule! cult.

@nightstalker mentioned that he saw quite a few chuckwallas the other day
his photo was taken at 1000, so thought i would time my hike to finish up on mormon trail around then
up mormon, through hidden valley, national, mormon loop and mormon
saw ten chuckwallas, at least one on each trail
it's been awhile since i've seen that many
guess i've been hiking too early

Hiked Mormon Trail to Hidden Valley with Victoria and Margaret on Christmas Morning.

After our road trip up to Sedona Margaret wasn't quite done with Arizona hiking and wanted to get a quick hike in Christmas morning before having brunch. Looking for something quick we took her to our old standby: Hidden Valley/Fat Man's Pass via Mormon trail.

The weather was great and there were quite a few people on the trail (more than I was expecting given the holiday). Some of them had exceptionally festive attire (in some cases so extensive that it was impairing their ability to hike). In any event it was a lot of fun to hike Christmas morning. We will have to do it again next year and maybe see if the Camelback Santa is in attendance.

ALL THE SANTAS!!! 🤣🤣🤣 In case you are looking for all the Santas, now you know where they are! 🎅🎅🎅 On this trail! 5 or so of them. Plus lots of elves! 🤣🤣

Started at 9a. Not a ridiculous amount of people on the trail initially, but during the last mile back to the parking lot: all the people.

Nice day for a hike! :) Nothing else to report! Encountered more bikes than previously on this trail.

We got a late start on our weekly fitness hike and opted to do the hidden valley loop in lieu of a farther away destination.

It was a good hike, the recent rains had some puddles and even a bit of flow in the hidden valley area.

The trail was hugely popular and crowded (at least the lower regions) It looks like "fair weather hiker" season has started in the Phoenix metro.

Hiked Mormon trail; Hidden Valley Loop and Fat Man's Pass with Victoria.

This was Victoria's 1st time hiking since her recovery and she did great. We motored through this fitness hike no problem. We went on Saturday morning (fairly early) to avoid the heat expected on Sunday. It wasn't too bad and the trail wasn't very crowded either.

A good fitness hike like usual. We have a backpacking trip coming up to start training for so we will be hitting the trails (despite the heat) more often to prepare.

Keeping it local we were looking for a 10 mile hike with a little aeg. We don’t visit this trail head too often so getting a start from it was a added bonus.

Took the route idea from a post by Kelly @trekkin_gecko, thanks :)

Nice loop overall, got a little crowded between Hidden Valley and Javelina Canyon but otherwise not too bad.

Nice morning on the SoMo trails.

Hiked Mormon trail Hidden Valley loop with Juan, Alyssa, and Victoria as our weekly fitness hike.

We had originally planned to do a more challenging route but we had a guest from out of town and did not want to run him into the ground. Unfortunately, he was not feeling up for hiking at all and did not join. Given the last minute change we opted to stick with the plan and hike Mormon anyway.

It was a good fitness hike the weather was relatively warm (spring is starting) and the trail was pretty crowded.

Wildflowers were just starting but hade not peaked yet. Didn't see any interesting critters

Needed to get the kids on a hike so leaned onto a classic. Mormon TH lot was full at 9am, we were the third car along the road. Hike up was a little painful after yesterday's run, kids almost outpaced me (but not yet, not gonna give them that satisfaction). We enjoyed the usual sites in Hidden Valley and took a few extra photos for a school project. Made some friends on the way out and had an easy trot back to the parking lot. Fun morning, always cool to see them jog along on a trail that I used to carry them along :)

Very early start on the Ridgeline trail from the Beverly Canyon trail head. Hiked up Mormon Loop to Two Peaks, then on to Hidden Valley. Down and up Devastator on the way back.
Good rain last night. Quite a few puddles in the trails. Fat Man's Pass was underwater so I bypassed it.
Saw 30ish bats in Hidden Valley out feeding on bugs. Noticed some fresh javelina and coyote tracks, as well as a leafless Bursera covered in bees that is in bloom.
Hiked over 5 miles before I saw anyone else. Home before Tibber got up  . Interesting morning. :)
