Lazy Sunday morning hike. Started just after 6:30am. Took Dmitri with me out for this one. We stayed on the level trails so it was pleasantly easy. After the steep hike the day before, I was very pleased to have absolutely no soreness in my legs at all :y: .

Saw some owls on the Cat Peaks and got a good shot of one. Saw a hawk on a saguaro just after that. Nothing else really to speak of. Finished up before 10am and got over 8 miles in, which I was pretty happy with. Got a pizza for lunch and took an afternoon nap on the couch (kind of) watching the Pirates lose. Weather was still nice, the real heat hasn't hit yet, plus our early start helped.

Baby long nosed snakes are officially out in full force. I tried to beat the crowds who were hoping to photograph them by getting to the trailhead at 4am. I had the desert all to myself, but when I got back to the car, there were people on bikes about to hit the trails to look for the new hatchlings. They looked like regular mountain bikers, but I knew why they were there.

I saw 4 baby long nosed snakes and one dead one. I also saw a diamond back, two javelinas, and a scorpion eating a mouse. Unfortunately, the scorpion released the mouse when I got the camera out.

I went over to Usery to do some morning exploring on some different trails. Route Scout said 1050 AEG. Sounds high. I'll take 100. :D :y:

Out on Crimson Wash, took Levee over to Signal Wash, Spillway up to Blevins, then West on Blevins to Nighthawk Wash. Went West on Channel trail to end, then returned East to Noso. Returned to car, with a loop around Merkle on the way back.

Belated post. This was my second hike on the east side on Saturday. Started from the Signal Wash south entry point and did a short loop involving the Signal Wash Trail and what I would term an extension of the Levee Trail. (The Levee Trail officially ends where the Spillway Trail intersects with it, but the actual levee continues east and then south. I included this unofficial portion in my loop. I was hoping this would generate more miles, but my main goal was to complete another trail on my "get 'er done" list. No wildlife. Saw a few people in the distance, but never encountered anyone. Weather was great!
