Starting from the Adero Canyon TH, I did a variation of the Sonoron-Lower Sonoran Loop by first going up to the West-View Overlook, and then taking the Wilderness Trail to the Sonoran Trail. The loop was thus clockwise.

It was a nice cool morning for hiking, and kept my windbreaker on the entire time.

Stats are from Garmin due to flatlining on my phone.

Early morning hike in the Fountain Hills area. Got to the Ardero TH around 6am. Full moon this morning. Typically, I like to think that I do t need a flashlight in such cases, but not so. The moon was just beginning to set behind the McDowells and the Western Trail that I used for start of my hike is very rocky. Headlamp definitely needed. Spent a short time on the Promenade, Alternate Route and the Andrew-Kinsey in route to the Western Trail. Hiked the Western Trail up and paid a short visit to Peak Spur 3098 and then descended down the northern side of the Western Trail. Around 1.2 I came upon the beginning of the Wilderness Trail. Daylight had started to brighten the sky so I was able to do this without a flashlight. There is a sign at the beginning that says this trail is for experience hikers and that hiking poles are recommended. The trail was definitely more rugged than the rest of the trails in the Fountain Hills system, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. The trail is more narrow than most trails, but still easy to follow. There were also several steep ups and downs, but the traction wasn’t bad. No scree. The high point seemed to be about .75 miles in on the trail. Looks like it would be an easy bushwhack to the ridgeline above. I can see use trails developing. When I reached the end I took the Mesquite Hollow back to the Promenade and the Promenade back to the TH.

Nice hike to start the month. Temps were great. In the 50’s. Intermittent breeze was appreciated. No wildlife. Encountered 10 hikers. All on the Mesquite Hollow or later.

I started from the Adero Canyon TH, took the Promenade Trail to the Lower Sonoran, and then hiked down to the Dixie Mine Trail and hiked north a mile on that and turned around once I hit 5 miles. On the way back I started on the Sonoran Trail. I was going to hike that to the Promenade Trail, but then I saw the junction with the Wilderness Trail and decided to take that. Once I was on the Western Trail, I considered hiking to the peak and down the other side, but I was kind of worn out from hiking the Wilderness Trail, which is very steep up and down the entire way, as well as very narrow and rocky, so I hiked down the Promenade and back to the TH.

It was mostly cloudly until the last 2 hours, then the sun came out for good. a little chilly to start, but got pretty warm at the end with the sun out.

This was a hike from the Adero Canyon TH that was composed of 5 different loops -- enough to make @The_Eagle green with envy!

Trail Sequence: TH>Promenade>Andrews-Kinsey>Alternate>Promenade>Sonoran>South Crossover>Lower Sonoran>North Crossover>Sonoran>Wilderness>Western>Promenade>Mesquite Hollow>Mesquite Spur>Mesquite Hollow>Sonoran>South Crossover>Lower Sonoran>Promenade>TH

There was something blooming throughout most of the hike: brittlebush, chuparosa, poppies, scorpion weed, fiddlenecks, blue richards, and ocotillo were what I noticed the most

I did a variation of this loop today.

In started on the Promenade Trail and then went on the Alternate Route, Andrews-Kinsey Trail, and Western Trail. While descending on the Western Trail I came to a new trail -- the Wilderness Trail. I had no idea where the Wilderness Trail went, but I figured that there was a sure fire way to find out where it went, so I took it. It went 1.8 miles to the now 3-way junction with the Sonoran Trail and the Mesquite Hollow Trail. From there I went on the Sonoran Trail to the Fountain Hills Preserve Boundary, and then came back to the TH on the Lower Sonoran Trail and the Promenade Trail.

The Wilderness Trail is aptly named -- it is somewhat of a primitive trail, being narrow with a number of steep, rocky sections.
