The trail moved easy at first, with small waterfalls trickling along the way — nothing dramatic, just quiet and steady, like the landscape was exhaling. The sound of running water followed us off and on, just enough to make the whole place feel alive and moving around us.
And then came the mud.
Knee-deep, pull-your-boot-off, laugh-or-cry mud.
The kind you look at for a half second thinking, maybe I can go around it, and then somewhere mid-stride you realize the answer is nope, you’re going in.
It slowed us down, sure. But it also made the whole day feel like an adventure — the kind you don’t forget because you had to earn every step. There was a lot of laughing, a bit of slipping, and a few moments where all you could do was just stand there and appreciate the absurdity of it.
By the end, we were tired, muddy, and completely satisfied — the good kind of worn out that hits you in the legs and the lungs and reminds you that you showed up today.
Perfect weather, quiet water, unforgettable mud.
A good day. A really good day. |
