Short hike in the White Tanks. I wanted to get out of the house, but I wasn’t looking for much. This worked. Pretty “bllaaahhh” trail but it was great to get outside and enjoy the weather. Did the short and long loop. Apparently other people thought so as well. Encountered 21 people on this humdrum loop. Footprints indicated the trail had been muddy early on, but it was fine by the time I got out there around noon. Saw 1 chipmunk.

Short midday hike with wife. Nice to get out with her when I can. The weather has to be juuuussstttttt right for my Goldilocks. And it was :D . Leg was still bothering me from my run yesterday, so it worked out perfectly. Parked at the new parking lot that the park put in about a year ago. Did the Long Loop and then the Short Loop. Trails were surprisingly busy for a Tuesday day hike. Saw 12 hikers and a trail runner on that short stretch.

Researched to figure out what part of town I could hike in without getting drenched. White Tanks looked to be the answer + a strong chance of seeing the waterfall. Mmmm, no. I would suggest trying on Tuesday.

We then did the "long" loop. After we pondered where to go next. We decided on mule deer trail. That was easy. Let's add South trail. On the way back, why not tack on Bajada trail. All of which were rather easy. Not a drop of rain fell on us.

Went out with familia for quick post-Thanksgiving hike.

If you're looking for a place to sit down, waterfall trail is your kinda hike...

We counted THIRTY THREE benches between the trailhead and the waterfall.

2nd of 3 mini dayhikes with non hiking friend.

Started from waterfall TH headed out to Black Rock loop including a figure 8 of some sort to complete the entirety of the Black Rock Short Loop. Ended where we started.

Saw many petroglyphs I'd never noticed on previous trips with family along the Black Rock Loops. Beautiful day.

Very short after work run. Was in the vicinity and since its been over a year since my last visit this worked out well. Got to the trail a little after 4:30. Did a loop di loop going CCW. First the Black Rock Long Loop and then the Short. Easy run. Saw one couple while I was out. No wildlife.

Had to run an errand after work so I was limited on time. So I needed something quick and easy in the general area. I did the long loop and tacked on the connector to the Waterfall Trail as well as the short segment that compromises the short loop. Preserve was busy!! There was a line of 7 cars in front of me as I pulled up to the entry station. Luckily the Black Rock Loops were not where they were going. I only encountered two other hikers while I was out there. Weather was nice. In the mid 50's with clouds. Trails were in fine shape, despite the recent rains. No wildlife.

Short hike, after the rains past through. Not what I planned, but it was nice to get back out. Did the Black Loop CW and a little extra. Even after the rains the trails were still very nice to walk on. Good drainage = no mud.

We got a little later start than I wanted however, the day turned out great. This was the first opportunity for my daughter and I to try out our new Osprey Poco pack. Overall I am happy with the pack. Emma seemed to enjoy the ride as well.

We took Black Rock Long Loop and connected it to Waterfall Canyon trail. I think it has been said before, but I am really surprise more people do not do this to avoid the large crowds at the Waterfall Canyon trail head. I think it should be said that the individuals working at the park do a wonderful job. For the amount of people that use the park it is almost always in great condition.

The trail itself isn't much more than a nice walk through the desert. This was a good thing for this trip considering I had a two year old strapped to my back. She loved it! Which I'm thankful for because I want to get her out in nature more often.

Cheers!

Short run in the White Tanks. Started around 1pm. Parked at a picnic area between 2 and 3 so that I could get a few more miles than what I would get out of the Black Rock alone. Basically, I went in on the Bajada, then Mule Deer, then Black Rock and then back the way I came. Literally had the park to myself. Didn't see anyone on the trails, nor any cars parked at the trail heads. Blue skies, warm temps with a strong breeze. Good to get out after two days off.

Took the pups on a nice Monday morning hike. My intended route was to hike Goat Camp and take Mesquite Loop back. 12+miles. With it raining I wasnt sure if we would make it. We hiked 2.9 miles on the Goat Camp before we turned around. As we gained elevation, the rain was getting worse with very strong winds. I noticed my smaller dog wasn't enjoying herself so we turned around. My bigger dog seamed to be unaffected and was fine. Once we lost the elevation the winds stopped and the rain wasn't so bad. The smaller dog was enjoying herself once again. While taking a 30 minute break in the truck, I started looking for some small trails to do. I decided to take Black Rock Long loop to Waterfall trail to the waterfall. Even with it raining all morning, there was very little water coming down the fall. I wasnt expecting much, but I thought there would be more. I stayed at the falls for 20 minutes talking with another hiker. I then hiked back to the trail head and did the Black Rock Short loop. I then drove to the Bajada trailhead. I hiked the Bajada trail to the end and back. Nice easy hike even with the rain.

My friend Kristi joined me for this hike. Neither of us was working, and we both needed to get outside to actual nature.

The hike is nice and easy, and there weren't too many people out since it was still technically during the week. We walked up to the waterfall (dry) and took a peek in the stagnant pools. We noticed a couple bolts going up a rock face and commented on them, but a guy (who apparently worked there?) told us it was for the idiots who need to be rescued (his words!).. we silently disagreed. Continued on down the path and checked out the Black Rock Loop, which had several [?] boxes.. we were intrigued and had fun guessing at what picture would be inside each one.

After a little research, did find that there were climbing routes there long ago, and possibly still some today. But it's highly discouraged to climb there, and several bolts have been clipped, so it's probably not safe to try climbing there anyway.

Bajada - Goat Camp - wash/service road - Barry - Mesquite - first half of Waterfall Trail - south half of Black Rock - Mule Deer - Bajada

Headed up the wash just before mile 5 on GC for the first time - I think I'll stick to the Jeep trail on the ridge.
Last entry in the summit log(s) was from 10/28.
Saw a group of deer along the Jeep trail. They headed into Slick Rock Canyon. The myriad of game trails on satellite imagery suggest they like to hang out around there. It's on the list/was considered today, but... :-k
Good weather, hardly anyone on the trails (except Waterfall, of course), good day. Might even skip the ibuprofen tonight.
Longest hike of the year so far.
