Unnamed trail towards Hackberry Springs

Hackberry trail back to First Water

All trail head parking areas except the Horse lot were at or near capacity today but despite that I only ran into a 1/2 dozen groups. The mud pit on the trail heading east from Garden Valley toward Hackberry should be avoided, I took a wide arch on the south side. Additional note the trail towards Hackberry and shortcut trail I took are rocky and can be rough on the ankles which was the deciding factor to skip Hackberry and take the shortest to complete my hike. First Water was still running at a low level, easy to cross without getting your feet wet. (Distance is a guess)

Trail appears to be seldom traveled and was slightly difficult to follow at times. Wildfower's were abundant and varied, I had not previously seen some of the varieties in the lower desert. Didn't make it all the way to the falls but would reccomend this hike after rain or snow melt, got close enough to see there was only trickle of water.

Nice hike, but the wildflowers were not there. Hiked Go John yesterday and comparatively speaking Go John was amazing and in full bloom, Picacho looked like it would mid summer but I saw evidence of the bloom so it's probably too late to see the famed glory of the fields out here.

Have not been on this trail since it has been vastly improved, intstead of a rocky Jeep trail to start or finish the hike the trail is nicely graded with a few switchbacks. Parking lots were filling up but there's enough trail to allow quite times in between freindly greetings.

Parking lot was packed but the loop hike was not bad only ran into a few fellow hikers. On the way back down from the loop I saw in the distance a pack of (10-15) javelinas which was interesting in ten years of hiking I've never seen them before.

I do not recall the last time that the visibility was this great, I could clearly see snow remaining on the four peaks.

On Sunday I did a hybrid version of this hike from the 'Horse Trailer' parking lot there is a old jeep road that you can head north on for a few minutes and if you look towards your right there are several opportunites to switch over to a single track/horse trail that follows a wash down to First Water Creek which was flowing at a decent rate. Follwed the creek for a mile or so, climbed to a high view point and figured any further and I would be getting wet. Headed back towards garden valley and followed a ?cow? path cross trail towards the first water parking lot then another ?cow? trail back to the car.

Late start at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon after the recent heavy rain, the main road was in great condition but the short leg from the road to the trail parking was not passable in a car or any other low clearance vehicle. Bit surprised (but probably should not have been) to find ice and snow (AZ version of snow, what others would likely call hail) on the shaded portions of the trail. I'd like to say I made it half way down b/f turning around but that may be optimistic..regardless this is a great hike and I am looking forward to returning with the proper clothing and gear...shorts and a two tee shirts was not one of my more well thought through ways of staying warm.

Shaved a few minutes of my recent average time, working towards beating 30 minutes on the way up, probably could have dropped a minute or two more if I had not had to stop several times to pick up trash...why do people think it is ok to discard plastic bottles and food wrappers anywhere but into a trash can?

The city of Phoenix was holding an event hiking event and were shuttling people between local hikes which added to the usual crowd...however everyone seemed to enjoying the experience and sharing stories of their favorite hike. Despite the crowd only had to wait 10 minutes for parking at 10:00 am.

Scrambled a few miles through the rock strewn creek bed, hike is low on the reward to effort scale but will come back to when the creek is running to give it a second chance.

Looks like there have been many improvements to the trail lately good hike, a bit elevation so you get a workout and if you do the full loop once you get off of EM the spur cross trail would be a terrific running trail for those so inclined.

In respect to parking I spoke with a PV officer who indicated that if you park on the East side of Invergordon you are less likely to get a ticket (for questionable parking) as that it is in the Phoenix jurisdiction and they rarely patrol this street. Not sure if it's Phoenix or Scottsdale but the PV officer who was handing out tickets on the West side had no issue with me parking on the East side as it was out of his jurisdiction.
