This is the second time I hiked to the Mesa. Especially the last 1 1/2 mile up the mesa is pretty tough. The trail mainly consists of grapefruit size boulders and my ankles didn't like it. The reward is phenomenal however, I even got some zzz's during my lunch break on top of the mesa.

What a hike. Once you leave Dutchman trail and get away from the yapping resort poodles the hike is just great. I never saw so many animals in the superstitions. All the pools along the creek were filled with dozens of frogs. Highpoint of the trip was when I saw my first gila monster.

Great hike. The Dutchman Trail/Bluff Spring Trail part of the hike can be pretty busy. But the Whiskey Spring trail part of the hike was absolutely gorgeous. Fresh water in the creeks, no one around, what more can you ask for.

This was the second time I attempted this trail. The first time I took so many wrong turns (or I thought I was wrong, tracked back and found out I was right all along) that I aborted the hike at the 3.4 mile point.
The description from TerrySwiceGood is pretty accurate till the 3.4 mile point. One remark on the junction with the carved rock though. Follow the trail here, DON'T go right.
Once you reach the 3.4 mile point the trail gets very faint in most places. The cairns were pretty much covered by grass and so are the rocks. I must have tripped dozens of times. A map or a GPS is not a great luxury here.
The final ascent to the mesa is very steep and is very tricky coming back down. Hat off if you can return to the trail without falling.

Hiked the Miners loop. Although the parking lots of the Peralta trailhead were almost full, we met almost no-one on our hike. We even saw a mule deer along the Dutchman trail.

I started the loop at 7:30 and already there were quite a lot of (noisy) hikers going up the Peralta Trail. This made me decide to do the loop counterclockwise. This came out to be the right decision. By hiking up the Bluff Spring Trail first, you have the hard part first.

I parked my car at the Peralta Trailhead, this way the boring part of the hike was done first. As usual the hike up the Carney Springs Trail is pretty exhausting. Finding the Roost wasn't such a big problem. The big problem was going down the Roost. I had to bushwack myself a way down. The hike to Fremont Saddle was less difficult than the last time I hiked down from the Dacite Mesa.
