Hiking with Christine and dog Sol. Hot today, pushing up our usual 5 hour round into 7 hours. Even Sol found it tiring, probably hot under paw.

Hiking with Christine and our dog (Sol). Almost at south end of the Black Mesa trail (241) near Boulder basin came across a five foot snake with brown and white diamonds on its back enjoying the sunshine. It did not seem pleased to see us, hissed and rattled, we took the hint and backed away, it also backed away into the undergrowth. We took a wide detour, it was still hissing and rattling as we went out of earshot.

Anti-clockwise as I prefer to climb up rather than slide down on my butt.

Guess it must be a couple of years since I last hiked this one, and the memory is not what it was. Tougher to follow the trail this way around, also without the benefit of another trailfinder, but the unplanned deviations were all corrected.

Found the turn off Bluff Springs trail (1st time) and went a way along the Dutchman trail across Coffee Flat before turning around.

car broken into at trailhead. Rear 1/4 light broken and tonneau cover lifted, only contained cheap sandals which were not taken. Guess we learn to leave the tonneau cover off so that it is clear that we have left only $20 sandals.
