Very nice hike, great 360 views at the top. Also just recently opened up this trail to dogs.

This was the first time we have been to the North Rim area. We took it easy by staying at the lodge which was a great place to stay. We only had one full day to hit as many trails as possible. We needed to find some easier trails than we would have normally have taken due to a recent knee operation my wife had and were looking for something to help get it back into hiking shape. In all we hit 4 different trails, Bright Angel Point, Ken Patrick, Widfross and East Rim View Point. East Rim view point didn't offer much. It did view towards the "start" of the canyon, but we didn't spend much time there. Ken Patrick at Imperial Point was nice. It stayed along the rim with great views along the way. There was some burned out areas from the fire in 2000, but the re-growth was doing well. The trail was over grown in some areas but not too bad. Wish we could have gone farther, but this was our first major trail of the day and wanted to get to the next hike. The next one we hit was Widfross. This was a neat trail and geared towards the Weekend Hiker from the nearby lodge. It had nice views also. There was also a set of Points of Interest along the way. You can pick up a map at the trail head that describes the various spots. Again we wished we could have gone farther, but some clouds coming in did look a little threatening so we turned around. This trail is about 5+ miles one way to the point. Bright Angel Point, we probably went up and down this quarter mile trail a good 10 to 12 times during our stay. The trail head was just outside our cabin. So every time there was a good opportunity to take some pics I was running up and down this trail. All in all, as they say, it was a great trip and wished we could have stayed one more day. Can't wait to get back here soon.

After 5 consecutive years of coming here in mid October, this year has been the best for colors. We got to the trailhead at 8:10 and there were only a few cars there, by the time we came back out there were about 20 plus cars waiting to come in. The lady at the booth did say the early morning hours on Sunday is the best time to find a spot to park. The creek seemed to be lower than normal as well. There are at least 2 more weeks of leaves staying on the trees bar any major rain storms. Can't wait to make it back next year. T...

After watching Joe's counter on this site for "Number of days since my last hike" hit well into the triple digits. It was time to get back out on the trail somewhere. We had this one in mind for awhile. It was a pleasant surprise. We had the trail mostly to ourselves until on the way back out. A few creek crossings along the way. Not to worry about getting wet. For shallow and easily maneuverable. The were some at large bulls in the area roaming freely. There also was shade for the first few miles and then after that it opened up to better views. Several swimming holes along that way too. The canyon, we felt, was a cross between a Sedona Trail, Rogers Canyon and Cave Creek/Skunk Trail.

Finally made it to this canyon. Been on our list to do for sometime. There were still plenty of fall foliage on the trees even though we were on the down hill side of the peak colors. Nice challenging hike with some good elevation, not much in the beginning but the last couple of miles it started to climb pretty good. Only saw one other set of hikers on this trail the whole day. Really were surprised there was more in this canyon. We'll be back to this one again next spring.

Once we got past the take off point for the hang gliders we did not see a single person, it was nice change from our walk/hike at West Fork in Sedona 2 days earlier and the masses of people there. The trail is not used much so it is over grown in a few spots. There are some great look out points on both sides of this ridge. We did not make it a full loop trail, did only about 6-7 miles round trip. There were still some fall colors in spots. I would rate it a little tougher than a 3 as the description as it is listed just because of the altitude and switchbacks.

People every where. Guessing somewhere around 200-250. We got there on Thursday about 10:30, parking lot was full and we had to park about 1/2 mile up the road. This was our 3rd year for doing West Fork in October, so we thought we would out smart some by going on a week day. Wrong. We did about 8 miles round trip on the trail. After the first mile or so a lot of crowd thinned out. Our dog (Molly) loves this trail, but it does cause some looks when she crosses this creek with the grace of a flat footed water buffalo when passing some of the non-hikers and their $300 tennis shoes. I would say a good 7-10 days of peak time yet for fall colors, maybe longer depending on any wind/rain storms that may come along.

And yes, next October we'll be back fighting the crowds again.

Nice alternative to West Fork, we actually liked this trail better. We saw more fall colors here, mostly after mile number four. Hardly any people either. If your looking for a late fall trail I would recommend this. You get a little bit of everything from Big Tooth Maple to Manzanita brush. We've hiked all or part of this trail three times this year, definitely one of our top trails to hike in Sedona.

Tried to make this our destination for our Sedona trip this past weekend. Allens Bend (Grasshopper Point Recreational area) now is not allowing dogs on this trail. :?: So we had to find another spot for our day hike with "Molly".

My first trip to Havasu, won't be my last. We started out mid-morning around 10:30 AM. Too late in the day, it took us 4 hours to go into the village. On the return trip out we started at 6:15 and made it back out in 3 1/2 hours. Love those switchbacks coming back out. The falls were awesome. Had to say Navajo Falls were our favorite of the three we visited. We stayed at the lodge, which was better than expected. One of the best hikes I have done here in Arizona.
