Unable to get out of town (read as out of the heat) this weekend, so the DbleDutch Team turned to our alternate relief. The trails of Fashion Square are easy to follow, although may have some distractions. Some sections of trail have steep areas that have steps to reach the upper portions of this urban canyon. Temp was generally less than 80 which was our goal. Extra bonus is that most trailheads have covered parking.
Headed to Hackberry Spring and pleasantly surprised with good water flow in First Water. Returned by following First Water to the ranch corals and back to Horselot for a reverse lasso loop. Mixed flowers and other fauna with light breezes made for a great afternoon. Frequent stops for photos and just to sit and hear the water flowing/falling over the rocks. Water flowing in the desert is such a treat.
Spent some relaxing days at Patagonia Lake SP. Birding, walking, lounging. Reservations made 3+ months ago and both the Sweetheart and I were under the weather for the trip. The kayak or daypacks never came out Just a couple strolls along the Lake, Creek and campground. The pipevine swallowtails were quick in the breeze and tough to get a clean pic. Same with the vermilion flycatchers and a juvenile hawk yet to be identified. Heavy rain our last night but cleared for us to pack up between showers in the AM. Maiden voyage for a towed vehicle and all the equipment performed well. The Toad came in handy to explore some local roads and geocache...car hiking
Fun afternoon in the Supes. Constantly changing skys added to the pics. With a later start time, we hit our turn around time before the falls. The Sweetheart frowns on night hiking, after several other trips ended by lamp light Busy day on the trail. Lot was full when we arrived and nearly empty on our return.
Used the Warpaint TH and linked the Warpaint Loop - Desert Classic & Secret Trail for ou Sunday afternoon hike. All these trails are popular with the Mtn bikers, so be prepared to share the trail often.
Left Quartzsite about 10:30 for the trailhead. Up the trail and at the trail view point too early for the best light. Headed up the chute on the rightside. As we were returning the trail, wife's cell phone began ringing in her backpack. WHAT! cell service in this remote tight side canyon. Yup she is talking to our son in Phx. Light on the Palms was better on our way out.
Wondered the white spot trails north of Watson Lake from the Granite Dells TH. So many trails and could not name them all. Enjoyed the base of the dam and the cooling mist from the discharge. Too warm for the elevation and this late in Nov. Oh well helped burn some Tday calories.
A nice jaunt through the NW Supes. Left the Horse Lot following the drainage at the NE corner of the Lot to First Water, then headed S past the corrals to the 2nd Water trail. On to the Dutchman through 1st Water TH back to the Horse Lot. Limited trail company to less than a dozen. We did meet a lost Family of 4, 1/2 mi from Horse Lot and gave them guidance and water to the Lot TH and back to their car at 1st Water TH. They were very relieved to learn where they were and how to reach their car. Tis the season to aid those Novice hikers and avoid the news or SAR calls.
Not exactly a solitude hike, but one on our list to see in person and thoroughly enjoyed. Booked our mid-day tour through Antelope Canyon Tours out of Page. We had an excellent Guide aiding in photo positions, poses and clearing people from photos. Aided some with camera needs and friendly with our multi language group.
A great mid-day paddle on Blue Ridge North arm to the end. Easy choice as a large group that took 2.5 hours to prep (per ranger) launched just ahead of us and headed out to the South arm. Got off the water at 2:30 and packed for home just before the 3 o'clock light showers began. Our first time on Blue Ridge and will be back to explore more.
Left from the Washington Park TH and up 290 to the Tunnel Trail 390. Too many hikes at our desert elevation left us in slow gear for the hike up. The last section of the Tunnel Trail has two options and cairns. We took the direct assault on the left not seeing the option right. A sketchy route up the waste from the tunnel. A survey from the top showed the bottom of the ravine and coming up behind the powder house is the better route. Enjoyed a lunch break and exploring the tunnel area. Back to the TH is all downhill and passed quickly with only a pause at a trail guardian. A buzz worm said I was too close at about 10' and I agreed with a couple retreating steps.
Made this loop starting at the NE trail from the Horse lot TH in a clockwise direction. First Water was flowing nicely creating many small falls. Most of Garden Valley trails were dry, but greenery everywhere. Some poppies just beginning to pop and other small flowers. Our late afternoon loop from the lesser used Horse lot kept the crowds at bay. The lot nearly empty at our return.
An afternoon hike to Hackberry Spring via the drainage at the NE corner of the Horse lot. Used the common foot trail to the spring and the horse route to make a small loop. Breezy cool afternoon and nice to be in the canyons, the ridge lines were fresh in the breeze.
