Started from the turn off parking lot at the start of FR 152 since we didn't have a high clearance vehicle. Walked the road about 1.5 miles to the trail head. Went at 6am so we had amazing early morning sun--really does wonders on the red rocks. Hung out at the arch for a while and then headed back whence we came.

Headed out to Long canyon and did a little side excursion to Mescal Mountain. Great day to hike--Long Canyon was very peaceful(except the helicopter tour every hour :? ) Trail was shady, lots of tiger swallowtail butterflies.

First time hiking Picketpost. It was an absolutely textbook day out there yesterday. High 70's, sunny nice breeze. It was more clear yesterday than I have seen in a while. I saw all the way to the Catalinas to the south. Great view of my beloved supes too.

Took a buddy from Minnesota up to Tom's Thumb on Saturday. It was my first time on this trail. I was not expecting such a steep climb at the beginning of the trail. It was nice to get some good blood pumping :) Got to the top, hung out for a while and then headed back. Quick little hike but a nice trail. I really like the boulder fields. I want to go back and do a little more exploring in the area soon.

Went to New Mexico this weekend and took a nice hike to Sawyers Peak in the Gila wilderness. Temps were great--mid 70's. The wind was INTENSE! All in all, great hike then back to Truth or Consequences for some hot springs goodness :)

Took the lower La Barge box loop today. What a great day for a hike! 70's, nice breeze and sun. Water temp at the box was nice--but a little chilly. I took a quick dip to cool down and then headed back. I didn't do the full loop as I was by myself and I didn't want to chance it.

Took a drive up to Cibecue canyon today to do a little non-technical canyoneering. It was a very pleasant trip. The weather was really nice. Water was a little chilly, but not too bad at all. Just before the final turn to the falls, I dropped my camera in the water ](*,) D'OH! This is one of my favorite hikes--it is very easy, but the scenery is breathtaking!

After staring at the mountain from my front yard for so many years, we FINALLY did the ridgeline hike! I have had it on my list for a looong time. We decided to go up Carney and down the Siphon trail because we have hiked both many times and figured that it would be easier to go down the Siphon trail with sore legs--Carney is just so slick. I think that was a good call, but I have read and heard that going the opposite direction is easier. Who knows? We made it to the top of WBS in less than an hour and then headed towards 5057. We summited 5057, spent a little time up there and signed our names to the log in the red coffee can. We then went back down the way we came, the whole 5057 trip probably only added 1/2 mile at most and it was well worth it. We met a large group on the way down from the summit who had missed the ridgeline trail and were heading up the summit trail. We pointed them in the right direction and then headed on our way. After 3 sisters, we decided to take the back side trail to get out of the way to have some lunch. After lunch we proceeded down the trail. My quads started to cramp a bit before the coconut water kicked in so it was pretty slow going there for a while. Finally, I started to get my legs back and we proceeded to the Siphon draw trail. Going down Siphon was pretty slow going--it took us 2 hours! My knees were pretty sore going down, but with the slow pace, we made it down.

All in all it was a great hike--but it was pretty difficult. I am glad to have crossed this one off the list. We proceeded home, showered and then headed out to dinner for my bro-in-law's birthday. I had a nice big steak which definitely "eased the pain" :y:

Started from the Reavis trailhead at about 4:30pm on Friday. We got to the turn off to reavis falls right as the sun was going down. Spent the last hour+ of the hike down to Reavis creek in the dark and navigated by headlamp. We arrived to the Reavis creek campsite at about 8:00pm and immediately set up camp. We had neighbors next door--a couple of guys that were down there for the weekend like us. It was fun to discuss hiking and gear with them over the weekend as well as other hikes around AZ.

On Saturday we woke up, had breakfast and headed to the falls. The flow rate was pretty good--though definitely not going full blast--still, it was flowing enough to make it a really nice experience. We knew that there was a storm on the way for Saturday night/Early Sunday morning so we spent the afternoon setting up a tarp shelter over the fire pit and proceeded to gather as much firewood as we could. Saturday night was very clear--the stars were great, but it is amazing how much light pollution Phoenix creates even that far away. About 2am, I was awoken to the sound of rain and my hammock having sagged to the ground due to a combination of being wet and the tree I was tied off to becoming more pliable. I (reluctantly) got out of my hammock and proceeded to tighten the suspension and get everything situated. About 3am, my buddy woke me by brushing snow off my tarp and saying that our tarp shelter had blown in and the wood was getting wet. Like a champ, he stayed up throughout the night and fixed the shelter and kept the fire going/dried out the wood.

Awoke at about 5am on Sunday morning and stepped out to 3 inches of snow on the ground!! :y: That was pretty cool as this is a rare thing in AZ. Went over to the fire and found my camp mate tending the fire. We had breakfast and some coffee and began contemplating breaking camp. As we were breaking down camp, a few more snowy/sleet showers came through. Knowing that the trail back would be covered with snow, we headed out pretty early--about 8:30ish. The hike out was amazing and to our surprise, the trail was not that hard to follow--it was pretty slow going though. We lost the trail only once on the way out. Approaching the apogee, a really cold, snow squall came in providing us near whiteout conditions! Despite the cold wind and snow, we headed on as we were getting hungry and soaked. Reached the TH about 1pm, signed out of the wilderness and got in the truck for the ride back to the valley. What a great place! The campsites down there are absolutely cherry! I know I will go back again--hopefully sooner rather than later :D

Headed out on Sunday to the falls thinking that all the rain we had on Saturday would make for some pretty good water. I was wrong. The falls were no more than a little trickle. The hike out was great though. Views were fantastic toward black top mesa and overlooking the massacre grounds. On the way back, some of that rain blew in and we spent pretty much the whole trek back in the rain--but hey, here in the desert, we like that--FREE SHOWER ;) Only saw 2 people on the trail.

Went with @dhorn and a few friends to Romero and the pools. Instead of coming back on the trail, we headed down the stream course. Very cool hike. There were 2 spots that the canyon walls pinched us in and we had to swim for it. The water was nice and cold but the weather was perfect so we dried out pretty quick. The route was posted by dhorn here: http://hikearizona.com/location_g.php?GPS=10095&sid=3ad9763e94a743e5ff312795b05d4134

Went with Dhorn and my lady up to Aylors arch as a pre-superbowl hike. Followed the description posted by Fritzski and it was perfect. Except that according to my GPS route, the "Lone tree" that is spoken of is about 4.3 miles down the trail, not the 3.8 it says in the description--so you may want to watch that if you are using a pedometer to keep track of distance without a GPS track. I posted our route as a GPS track so that others could use it. As I say in the route post, we did not turn off EXACTLY at the "lone tree" just past the trail junction, but could see it about 100 yards up the trail. It is really easy to spot. It didn't matter much though as the initial bushwhack down to the stream bed is very easy. One thing I would recommend is that if there is not too much water in the stream, hike down the stream rather than going across it. The boulder hop is very easy and it is a much more pleasant experience than hiking across the land--not having to worry about cacti is a good thing ;) Spent about an hour at the top exploring the flat areas and fins then had some lunch and headed back the way we came.

Took a new years day hike up west boulder trail from Carney TH. At west boulder saddle, headed east and hit the roost. Then headed north along the hoodoos down to Fremont and back down the peralta trail. Great day hike--there was ice at the top of Dacite mesa.

Took Bluff Springs trail to Terrapin and then hit the weavers needle crosscut trail. It was an overcast day and the temp was pleasant. Had a great time exploring around the base of the needle! Definitely recommend taking the route from terrapin across to peralta and not the other way around. The maze of hoodoos is crazy and I can imagine it would be more difficult route finding than the way from Terrapin. There are many cairns marking the way. We thought the trail was very easy to follow.
