Gorgeous hike indeed, met several enthusiastic people on the trail from out of town who had never been to Sedona or AZ in general, everyone had a great hike!

Awesome hike with just enough challenge to get me prepared for the Reavis Falls hike I'm planning in 2 weeks. The trail going up to West Boulder Saddle was definitely steep and slippery in some places and it took me about an hour to get to the first saddle then about another 30 minutes to get to the next saddle. Once you make it to the top you can clearly see the route that leads to the Superstition Ridgeline trail that veers left. For this loop you will go right and down into a drainage area and take one of many many cairned paths the rest of the way. Aim for the left side of the yellow streaked cliffs like Joe Bartels says, then when you get there go down into the next drainage and head northwest which is clearly cairned. In Joe's description he says something about going south which threw me off a bit because at no point in the GPS track do you see any southward movement. I just stuck to my gut and headed northwest and found a great trail that leads directly to Fremont Saddle. The views and solitude on this hike (solitude until Fremont Saddle that is) were incredible! Awesome views all around, it was wonderfully picturesque. If you are looking for a fair challenge this is a great choice.

Webber Creek was definitely amazing and more than I had hoped for. I decided to drop in from the top off of Rim Road 300 instead of taking the posted trail from Geronimo. This worked out well, all business right from the start. As you descend into the creek the vegetation starts to explode. Countless raspberry bushes along the way, however most were located downhill of the spring and were definitely not ripe yet. This hike consisted of A LOT of rock hopping and climbing up/down big drop offs and also balancing on giant logs bridged over crystal clear waters. Needless to say, it was a blast. My chest and lats were destroyed much worse than my legs by the end of this one. Come fall, this spot will have a multitude of colors due to the varying species thriving here. My plan is to come back and eat myself sick full of raspberries. Touching once more on the walls you have to climb down and back up, one stood out the most. It was a ~30ft wall with 3 or 4 spots you can pause at on the way down. The last "step" is a ledge with about a 6-7 foot drop onto a curved rock, so going down you have to be careful. Coming back up you have to hoist yourself onto this ledge, which was over my head. It was basically a monstrous pull up ordeal. One of my friends couldn't make it back up, so I lodged a log into a crack to use as a step. He still had difficulty so I had to pull him up and over. If you are used to this stuff, its cake, but if not beware.

Went out for some urban area hiking which I haven't done in a while. Replaced my morning hike in Phoenix Mt Preserves with a morning swimming routine so I haven't been in urban hiking spots. It was nice to go to Thunderbird park after so long.

Awesome Sedona hike that I didn't see people on. The trail starts off nice but normal. As you proceed you start having great views of the terrain before you hit the canyon section. This is the first Sedona hike I've done where I didn't see signs of civilization at all. There were some sweet narrow sections, one of which my dog fell into and swam out like a champ. The water was warm, murky, and packed full of tadpoles. I guesstimate at ~3 miles you enter secret canyon and the scene changes quickly. Tall, huge pines tucked away in the shadows of this peaceful place. It was lush considering how hot it was. Stopped in an awesome narrow section and chilled on the cold sand and ate lunch. Awesome hike. BY THE WAY, the dirt road leading to the trailhead was pretty rough on my friends 2 wheel drive truck. Definitely not passable in a sedan unless you want to destroy your car. Beware. If you take a car you gotta park at the beginning and walk seemingly endless road to hit the trailhead, right around 4 miles long.

Set off late and into the night (though I know you have to leave when its dark) been busy and I really needed to hit the trail for some heart pounding uphill. Tom's Thumb fit the bill! My apologies for breaking the rules. I've done this hike several times but never at night. Right away on the trail I encountered a large tarantula, a different species than I normally see around this area. I figured I may see some more critters, like snakes, so I was very cautious on this one.

Smoked the hike on the way up there, took no breaks all the way til the end and it felt amazing. My favorite part of this is exploring the little network of spaces between several large boulders near the base of Tom's Thumb. It gives you a real sense of adventure climbing through the corridors and small squeezes they create. I admired the moonlight creeping in through small cracks of rocks, very peaceful.

Turned around and jogged back to the truck, but not before encountering a bobcat. My headlamp transfixed him, and he stood still for quite some time. I began to resume the trail cautiously with my light focused right on those massive glowing eyes, the sense of adventure started mounting yet again, it made for some good fun. I went slowly until he finally turned away, but I kept seeing him stop momentarily to check me out as he made his retreat. This is only the second time I have seen a bobcat, both times in this same area. The first one I saw crossing the road in mid daylight, but it was cool to see one in a predatory state.

All in all what an energy filled hike this ended up being. The moonlight on all that granite and the continual crisp breeze took me a world away when I needed it most. I love hiking!

Sometimes it's hard to gather words to describe the essence of a particular place. Transcendence, fulfillment, cleansation, all part of the experience on this hike. Every nook was occupied by a thriving life form exploding with growth and luster. The canyon walls left me detached and indifferent from everyday life, confined to an isolated world of joy. The sights, sounds, scents and textures enthralled the senses into an escape I won't ever forget. Incredible.

Went for an off trail exploration of the area around Pivot Rock Canyon campground. Camped out at a developed sight away from the main camping grounds as I wanted some privacy. All night I heard what I'm not sure were wolves or coyotes, they had us surrounded all night. Woke up with the sun and made breakfast and set off. Went into an unmarked side canyon and just followed it until it ended. Left the canyon and set off on a new direction for a few miles, caught a pretty fat lizard with blue on the sides of his stomach and just admired the quiet of Rim country. Eventually I found what I figured was a side shoot to the first canyon I hiked. I descended maybe 150ft on some slick pine needle carpet into it, and sure enough it linked back to the first canyon I started in. Walked back with a new buddy, a big butterfly who seemed to be enjoying his flight alongside me. It was a great freestyle hiking day as I like to call it. No routes, no destination, just exploring free, good stuff.

Set off for Spur Cross Ranch around 4:30pm, kinda delayed getting there so I would have to hike out in the dark :) Brought my dog with me too, she really needed to get out and hike. When I got there the parking lot was empty, it's been a while since that has happened. I hiked Spur Cross trail to Tortuga, to Elephant Mountain and back. Saw two deer, who were really wary of my dog. Also saw a coyote who did not like me near him. He stood in one spot staring at me just barking. My dog thought "Hey! A friend." He didn't want to be friends! He wanted us gone!

It was nice to get back to my roots and hike in Cave Creek, it's my first oasis in the desert! Beautiful day/night, glad I spent it with my heart pumpin!

Decided to hike Bear Mountain based on a suggestion from trekkin gecko, thanks! The hike was great, weather was fantastic, I saw more species of lizards than I have seen anywhere else so far. I've been doing a lot of canyon hikes so it was nice to hike a mountain. Me and my buddy decided to push it a bit on this hike since he had to get to work. We banged it out in 3 hours it felt great!

As Joe Bartels said it was a good Sedona geology lesson, lots of interesting geological bits on this one. I especially liked the view of Fay Canyon from Bear Mt. It was also nice to be back in Sedona, I like the energy.

This week I wanted to do a hike that was more casual and not strenuous. I decided to take a buddy who doesn't hike much with me to check out this infamous spot. Even though there was a fair bit of people, I still felt an unusual sense of solitude. The energy here was so positive I can't really explain it. We found a spot fairly far down to relax and take a dip, which was incredibly refreshing. The water felt great, cool but still pretty warm.

I found myself enchanted by this area so next week I'm going to start my exploration of the Sedona area. I'm excited as can be! If anyone wants to recommend some sweet Sedona spots I'm all ears!

A nice trip to the Rim for some forest hiking to mix things up. The thing that stood out the most on this hike was the cold relentless wind. It was constantly biting especially on the exposed ascent up the Rim. Countless cairns lead the way to Knoll Lake which was gorgeous and much better than anticipated. I had a nice sense of solitude at the lake. It looked much more full than what I saw in the photos people posted. All in all a great time, I want to do this one again when it's not freezing cold.

First time for me out to The Crack, me and my buddy decided to give it a go for Easter!

We were the first car in the lot at 6:45am, a welcome sight. We decided to stick to the trail as this was the first time we had been on Bell Trail. The first two miles is decent but it doesn't give away the wonders that sit in the creek. We poked in and out of the creek at around 1 mile just to see what we were missing down there. It was absolutely gorgeous with lots of red rock slabs, some parts looked just like West Fork of Oak Creek like Joe noted in the description, I almost felt like I was at Slide Rock.

Further along we started a perfect ascent into the cliffs. Not too steep, not too easy, my favorite! It must be noted I hate extensive down hill sections, I'm a happy camper when we I see the trail go up ^ ! Great views along this section of Wet Beaver Creek and the red canyon walls.

Next stop, The Crack! It was totally empty here and we spent a good hour checking things out and really enjoying the space. The water was a bit chilly and it was still early so I decided not to swim. There were some good looking fish, I'm assuming trout, throughout the waters. I hardly ever see fish that size in the water around Phoenix, only where there are decent sized rivers.

We continued on down the trail crossing the creek, and began to go uphill again. We kept going up the mountain for about half a mile and decided to turn back so we could take the creek back to the car instead of the trail, and still make it back in time for Easter dinner! The way back down the creek was fantastic. Countless pools and interesting rock walls along the water. Now it really felt like Oak Creek Canyon! We saw the water gauge and also what appeared to be a cart on a cable to cross the water. I didn't see where it connected on the other side, so I'm not really sure what they use this for. We pushed on hard through the creek weaving through several natural obstacles. Now things were getting fun!

Made it back to the car by 2pm, which was now surrounded by over a dozen cars. We missed/avoided most of the people on this trip which I was fairly happy about. I hear large groups often come on this trail, it's just a PITA when I gotta get in front of ten people with my dog and they are all taking up the trail, lol.

All in all a GREAT time on this amazing trail.

Nice hike to an old favorite spot. I love doing this hike for a quick yet scenic escape from town after work. The waterfall was flowing nicely, there were a ton of frogs at the waterfall and further upstream.

I start this hike in a different spot than in the description. In the description it says to park in the pulloff to the right where there is a Tonto recreation sign. If you keep going around the big curve right past the turnoff, you can park immediately at the bottom of the curve on the left side. There is a sign that says Blue Wash #1, this is a nice alternative to the posted route.

What a great day to do this hike, and a great hike for my first triplog! It rained the day prior so I was anticipating good flow in the falls. Upon arrival all of the mountains were dusted with snow from the night before, which I assumed was a good indicator for water flow. The hike started off nice with great views throughout.

As the hike description says, you go down, and down, and down some more! After about 4 hours of hiking at a decent pace I reached Reavis Creek. The creek itself was very beautiful and lush, with several crystal clear pools of water and small falls/cascades leading up to the main event.

I was blessed with solitude and tranquility at the falls which were roaring! I sat for quite some time letting the mist fall upon me and allowing the sound to occupy my entire mind. Bliss I tell you! I ate my lunch and said my goodbyes and made my journey to the car. I really wish I was geared up to stay overnight. The hike back was a straight push which took approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes.

This hike will go down in my memories as a grand experience.

This trail is downright enchanting to me any time of the year. The water was flowing great in the creek and the plants were really starting to take off for spring. Once again I was not disappointed with this little gem.
