Our guide that will take us through the San Juan de Ortega monastery (now church) and CHAPEL of SAN NICOLAS DE BARI , or Chapel of the Saint on left.

In the early 1100s, San Juan built a chapel, a monastery and a hostel for pilgrims heading to Compostela. Over time, collaborators joined him in his hospitality work, and so the monastery of San Nicolás was born around 1138, later known as the monastery of San Juan de Ortega.

San Juan's work did not end with his death on 2 June 1163, but continued for years to consolidate the monastic complex we see today.
