from the bus: Appears to be a Memorial field for two different reasons.

There is a single stone menhir very close to Attapuerca which I gather marks the spot of the Battle of Atapuerca in 1054.Two Spanish brothers fought each other at that time for power over northern Spain.

Other megaliths erected recently to commemorate various stages of archeological discovery in the area.
The first stone was erected in 1998 and number 6 was put up in 2014. The archaeological excavations of Atapuerca are UNESCO World Heritage sites. In 1997, bones of Homo antecessor, the oldest known human species in Western Europe, were found there.
