| partners | | Despite knowing of the impending weather (70% chance of light snow above 5500 feet), my brother and i decided to try our own loop hike. Our plan was to hike parker creek trail 160, take the forest road to abbey's way, venture up aztec peak, and then down to moody point. We would take moody point only to the rim trail, which would then take us back down to parker creek and home! Due to much heavier snowfall than anticipated and a lost jacket, we cut the trip short just 3.3 miles into the parker creek trail. It ended up being 6.6 miles, but still a lot of fun. Lot's of snow, (and rain below about 5000 feet), and lot's of fallen trees along the trail. Had we packed a few extra articles of clothing suited for the snow, we would have pressed on. I blame it on improper planning and a stubbornness on my part against stowing anything else into my swollen pack. We are already planning a return trip in a couple months, followed by a third trip next winter. One of the prettiest trails we have been on, can't wait to come back. |
