Parked at the official trailhead this time. That was a first, as all my previous hikes were from the Parker Creek Experiment Station, just up the road. Aside from being quite breezy, this was a perfect day to be on the trail. Took awhile checking out the stream gaging station along a very beautiful section of the canyon, before heading on up. This is a fine trail with lots of shade. Went as far as the memorial to the missing hiker up at the divide between Parker and Coon Creeks. This is right where the burned area from the 2000 fire starts, and the rest of the trail up to the Workman Creek Road goes through the burn, so I usually turn around here. Had lunch by the memorial, then took a picture over toward the Aztec Peak lookout (which shows the burn area). I gave a farewell wave to Red in the tower, who I had visited the day before, then headed back down. This concluded a very peaceful solo visit to a part of the state that is dear to my heart. By doing this trip on a Sunday/Monday, I solved the problem of returning to Globe and finding my favorite mexican restaurant closed. Chalo's Casa de Reynoso was open , and I enjoyed a fine meal before heading back to Tucson! |
