| partners | | Fun outing, nice to see Joe and meet Wally. Brian and I had come in Fri afternoon, car camped up on a ridge then hiked down Laurel Canyon so I could do some photo stuff at the falls in that canyon. Next morning we were concerned at the steepness of the road at Reef tank and if wet--hmmm. So we drove to a point where a ridgeline takes off, met up with Joe and Wally and took off, bushwaking till we met the Holdout Trail. Brian hikes pretty fast and I am a wanderer type so the guys took off and I went to the creek. The magic of water. I sort of got lost in what I was doing, some boulder choke stuff, and some scrambling to get to some small falls in huge house sized boulders. I still couldn't get through the big rocks just upcanyon from the Holdout Blackrock confluence. I didn't realize the guys had waited so long---sorry!
The weather was looking grim and after Joe and Wally took off Brian and I stopped to eat then decided to also go on out. Nothing like carrying a backpack as a dayhike. We got suckered into a sidecanyon that was not the right one so saw some more small waterfalls. Got to the road, dragged ourselves up it, in the rain briefly, then a rainbow and amazing afternoon light. We decided to car camp again slightly lower along the road and explore a mine area and canyon weather permitting. Well,it rained off and on all night but the morning was great and we walked around amateur rockhounding. The road dried out remarkably thanks to some pesky wind.
