| no partners | | Sometimes I just don't have it in me. I wanted to repeat the West Divide loop I had done a few years back. It's just hard enough you need to have your "game on" to do it-- at least for me. I had good intentions but it just didn't happen for me this time. But I got a special treat which will show in the photos.
I packed in late Fri, not driving the last two miles or so of the Powers' Hill TH because the road is pretty bad. No way the stock Cherokee making it, the Toyota probably could.
I camped in Rattlesnake Canyon to a nice 13 degree morning and tried to work up enthusiasm for packing up while looking at frozen pools of water. I was carrying a lot of water so that was good. Pipestem was long, a thrash, and a boulder hop. I was happy to see some fall colors and leaves still on a few stands of maples near the head. I got on the West Divide, but was deviated near a lookout and lost the trail. I spent a lot of time looking for it, realized where I had gone wrong ( did I look at my previous notes or the map---oh noooooo). I was behind a lot on my schedule, it was gray and cold, and I just said the heck with it. Back down to camp in Pipestem. Sunday solace was fall photo taking, although the trees were past peak still a beautiful site and incredible leaf litter.
The West Divide will still be there----someday. |
