We then hiked the canyon exploring one side canyon based on chumley's 6/13/10 triplog. We had lunch at the Buck Springs Cabins, hiked a little further north and then returned the way we came but on the opposite side of the canyon. Both Upper Buck Spring and Lower Buck Spring were flowing and there was water at numerous places in the canyon for wildlife and livestock. We saw at least three skulls and backbones, remnants of what may have been carnivore and elk encounters. One story was that some folks camping at Buck Springs had heard an elk and mountain lion tustle during the summer of 2009. One of the bone sets may have been from that.
This was a beautiful area and easy hiking even though there was no maintained trail. |
