There was a little chill in the air at Dave's car but in the high 40's at I-40 when we started. Nice!! You cross under I-40 and the railroad tracks and your on your way. This part of the AZT had lots of pines and some flowers. We saw water twice: Tip tank which looked pretty yucky and the Rio de Flag which looked good but DON'T DRINK it it's from the water treatment plant! We saw a small herd of Elk around this area with a nice Bull. After we crossed 89 there were still lots of pines and quite a few oak. You could see the cinder pit (which started Joe's singing) and both Elden's. Some nice rock formations and views too!We saw 4 Mule Deer in this area with one nice Buck! We didn't see any water at little Elden Spring. After that you see a few Aspen mixed in and then the burnt area from the Schultz Fire. There were some fern and flowers already growing in this area but all the burnt trees were sad to see! After that it started to green up little by little and Schultz Tank had a decent amount of water in it. All and all a nice hike and great company. Thanks to Dave and Bruce for driving and Joe for a a a his singing. You guys all made the hike fun as always! |
