| partners | | We heard about some new routes being put up in this area, so headed on down to check it out. As of right now, we're not 100% on how well it's bolted, and it doesn't seem that epoxy was used (lots of holes where there are failed bolts). A couple people took some smaller falls and everything seems kosher so far. Found a really great route farther down the canyon as it was starting to get darker. It was pretty cold out so we built a fire (far enough down the canyon it was okay) and hung out for a while having cheese and crackers and drinking sangria. Learned to be more careful when clearing out a fire ring, as some of the uncleared volcanic rocks underneath started exploding when they got too hot. One person ended up with a hole in his pack when a rock shard landed on it and melted the material.
I didn't do any climbing thanks to the previous day's abuse, but had lots of fun watching everyone else and taking pictures and hanging out with Madison. Favorite thing that made my day: when Madison started out a sentence, "When kids your age..." haha.. so awesome. |
