| no partners | | Interesting trip. For the first time ever, I passed 2 horses, with no gear OR riders. They were outbound on the Dutchman near the Dutchman and Black Mesa trail intersection. Then while east bound about half way up the Bull Pass trail, I ran into a Cowboy with a pack mule in tow. He asked "you haven't by chance seen a couple of horses have you?", I said "Actually, I did" and told him what I'd seen. Said he'd like to shoot them but then he'd have to pack out the carcasses so he'd probably skip the shooting part. An hour or so later I arrived at Charlebois Spring and found another Cowboy sitting at a camp table drinking beer. By the saddles near by and the amount of pack equipment in camp, I had a pretty good idea where the horses went missing from. We exchanged greetings and then he asked "you haven't by chance seen a couple of horses have you?", I said "Actually, I did" and told him what I'd seen. He said they wandered off last night and his partner went out looking for them. Had a nice conversation about the "Lost Dutchman", swapping a few stories... |
