| partners | | We hiked in on Saturday with 6 day hikers and 4 backpackers. The route in was Second Water, Black Mesa, Bull Pass then Dutchman to Charlebois. We stopped briefly at the ruins near second water/black mesa noticed there are no longer any pot shards on the rocks. The day hikers had a slight lead on us but waited on the saddle by Black Top Mesa. We dropped the packs and hiked up Black Top Mesa to take in the views. After a short rest we cruised into a camp site short of Charlebois Spring and went up to filter water. I took the day hikers to the Indian petroglyphs and they departed out Dutchman trail (as the overnight group would Sunday). After we next got our camp set up we took a hike up to Peters Mesa to burn some daylight. Peters trail is OK for hiking but had a few too many cactus for Tugger. The evening cooled down quick and was fairly calm but later a strong wind blew most of the night. I didn't think it was that cold but I was out voted but Big Agnes got good reviews from all. The Dutchman trail was good for the most part but the loop around Black Top Mesa was a little overgrown. The old sign read:
"Tonto National Forest", "Superstition Wilderness Area", "Indian Petroglyphs", "Do not deface". |
