The weather was great. The temps weren't too high and breezes came thru very often, especially when the shade got scarce. The trail is pretty rocky for the most part but has a few nice stretches of smooth and flat areas. To the north the scenery was the typical Rim scenery of the cliffs and to the south was miles of pines with Four Peaks and Mt. Ord in the distance. The stream crossings were very nice and is a nice contrast to the impending summer heatwave in Phoenix.
The consensus was to end the hike as Washington Park since it was already almost 1pm and going to the railroad tunnel and back would have added an easy 3 more hours. I was little disappointed that we didn't try the Pump Station Trail, but since it's a long drive back home, I wasn't about to push the issue.
Nice to meet krispykritter and kingsnake for the first time. Also looking forward to going back to this area again and tackle more of the Highline Trail with some longer loops planned . |
