Parker Creek was bone dry. Kyle, John and Joe got to Aztec Peak first while Ron, Chas and I lagged behind. After the obligatory climb up the fire tower for the views of the vistas and the famous dog, I decided to hightail it down the the Flintstone lounge for a primo seat for my lunch. We spent a good half hour at least there eating, resting, and trying out the various furniture. Afterwards, we made our way down the forest road back to Trail 160. It was pretty much decided early on that the longer hike was going to be abandoned by all those who previously declared interest. My feet were hurting on the way down, but nothing I couldn't handle. The toastiest spot was along Trail 160 just before the saddle where the trail goes uphill. I finished at about 3:15 but everyone else seemed very well rested by the time I arrived. Very nice hike with great views and cool enough temps considering what awaited us back in the valley when we were done. |
