We started at the TH at the end of Phoenix Street and took the Cypress Trail east to the Boulder Loop. We did the south half of that loop and then took Granite Dells Road up to the Monument Peak Loop and did that trail. On our way back we completed the Boulder Loop by doing the north half. Once we got back to the TH, we did the last 1.1 mile segment of the Cypress Trail up to Granite Dells Road and back. The last section was the toughest part since there was minimal shade and the heat started to kick in a little. The eastern part of the Monument Peak Loop and the north Boulder Loop trails had a nice stream flowing adjacent to them and sometimes right thru them.
The weather was cool in the morning, but it got fairly warm by the end, although nothing compared to the recent heat in Phoenix. Wally says he saw two deer on the last segment of the Cypress Trail. I was lagging behind as usual and was with Luigi, who talks loudly and constantly, so naturally I didn't get to see them.
Good hike with some good friends I haven't seen in a while. Nice to get out of the heat for little while and do a new trail. |
