The first highlight of our hike was seeing a big Horny Toad. We hiked the Crook trail out and back without ever seeing the connecting trail to Mogollon Campground, which was across the road to the south. Also in that area we saw a distant pile of concrete and thought it might be an old building of some kind. Instead it turned out to be a Forest Service dumping ground (who knew they existed?) with heaped up fire grills and broken concrete picnic tables, and truckloads of dirt.
We saw the most wildflowers along the Rim Vista Trail, and there was a good variety of them too. |
