| no partners | | We started out early but never had to worry about overheating. The temps were cool to start and stayed comfortable all day. There was no breeze much of the time, and even on the summit was very light. The clouds did not darken but gave us welcome shade. It sprinkled a few times in the afternoon.
The trail was almost crowded, but that made for a few interesting photos: a snapshot of the hillside with hikers going up revealed the trail, where it would have otherwise been invisible. A photo with people silhouetted on the summit made the scale of this huge mountain even more impressive.
The lower elevation was filled with massive deadwood and fallen timber. These were some of the largest Aspen and Ponderosa that we had ever seen. Throughout the day we saw flowers of virtually every color, even though most of them were past the main flowering season. We attempted to find the B-24 crash site on the way down, but didn't hike over far enough. Maybe next time! |
