| partners | | U-Bar cut through Barbershop Canyon to Barbershop Trail to Houston Bros. and back to Pinchot Cabin. This loop rules and I'll definitely do it again.
Barbershop Canyon is beautiful and easy to navigate. This so-called "off-trail" canyon is not so off-trail and almost completely lined with game trails. It appears the game trails have been used enough by hikers that they're pretty permanent.
Rains the night before made water even more abundant in this canyon where water can already be found year round. We even came across a waterfall on the side wall.
Had we not made a wrong turn on the U-bar, this hike would have been closer to 16 miles. I recommend this hike to anyone looking for solitude or to gain some experience in less traveled places.
The coyotes were getting crazy this morning. I'd never heard such ruckus from them in the daytime before. One finally appeared to us after his conversation with one that sounded much farther away. We also had a few elk sightings near the end of our day. |
