| no partners | | Knowing some friends were out backpacking to Holdout Spring (you will see their trip report soon), I decided to drive out Saturday, check out the area, and perhaps join them. This trail access had been closed for some time, but a work around road was recently opened. Since I had never been in this particular area before, it wasn't surprising that I missed the turn on 693A to get to the old road in (159). I stayed on main 693 and enjoyed some fun four wheeling all the way to Black Canyon, before realizing this couldn't be right, and backtracked. Only price for doing this was opening/closing gates 6 times and about an hour burned. I was in lazy mode anyway, not even leaving Tucson until about 930 in the morning, so it was becoming more likely I wouldn't be hiking in to join my friends. I finally got to the hike spot in High Creek around 3 and decided to give it a try. Went in about a mile and a half before deciding I didn't have enough desire to push on (backpacking definitely isn't my thing). I turned back a short ways before hitting the first trail junction. Had a great time exploring however (as always).  |
