| partners | | I hadn't been to Reavis Ranch in about 8 years, so decided to try it as a backpack (which is rare for me). In my two previous visits there, it was as a 19 mile out and back dayhike to Circlestone and Mound Mountain. The backpack was definitely more work, but it was fun to spend the night there. For some reason there weren't a lot of people camped there Saturday night. That made it even better. I had talked about taking some of the others up to Circlestone, but our group of 8 was too tired for that endeavor when we reached camp. It would have been possible if we stayed 2 nights, but this was just a quick trip. None of the other 7 had been to Reavis before, and they all agreed they wanted to come back. I mean, how can you not like the variety you see hiking in? Of course everyone liked the big juniper, plus I showed them Reavis grave. I just love the drive up to Rogers Trough itself; all the rest is a bonus! I was happy that it wasn't too cold at night: only down to the mid 30s with light frost near dawn. A storm was approaching and the morning breeze of nearly saturated air kept fogging up my camera lens. I did a lot better on the hike back out than on the way in, which made me . |
