| no partners | | Did this with the Hiking Hikers Hiking Group (3H). There were around 30 folks total on this wet Friday, so of course we split into groups to abide by the rules. I had already done the Carney Springs Trail to the West Boulder Saddle, as well as the Cave Trail portion, but never the interesting route through Robbers Roost. It was a blast heading over to Fremont Saddle! I really liked the different views of Weavers Needle, Fremont, and the Geronimo Cave formation from above. Once we got to Fremont Saddle one group headed down via the Peralta Trail, while the rest of us descended the Cave Trail Route (a favorite of mine). The morning started with low clouds and light rain shrouding the mountains, but by the time we started hiking around 9, just the low clouds remained. I knew this was going to make for a memorable day, as the best hiking is frequently just after a storm. It was both eerie and magical hiking through the hoodoos in the clouds! The only concern we had was if Devils Slide would be dry by the time we got there (it was). The low clouds lifted and burned off in the afternoon. A fine day indeed to be out there with a great group of hikers!  |
