| no partners | | Lou and I had originally planned to do the full loop during our workday, but as soon as we got to the top of cardiac hill, I turned around to see this incredible blanket of fog creeping toward the mountain. We stood there watching it for 15 minutes before moving on a little and then stopping again to watch some more. It was surreal to see it slowly consume the landscape below us. The fog layer was so dense and well defined that from above, it looked like the view out of an airplane window.
When I was finally able to pry myself away from this strange phenomenon and get over the ridge, the fog was out of sight and the sun was still shining. There were a lot of groups out hiking that day and because we were in uniform (technically 'working'), we were engaged in lengthy conversations with 3 separate groups by the time we reached the high point of the trail. By now, the fog had come over the ridge, blocking out the sun and bringing the temperature down about 10 degrees on an already chilly day. That was the tipping point for me. I can't handle the cold AT ALL. I'd rather it be 115 than 50. Plus, with all the delays we were way behind schedule so we opted to turn around. Walking back through the fog was pretty chilly and we got stopped two more times before we finally made it to the trailhead.
So glad I got to see this cool weather trick from such a great vantage point. It was just amazing. |
