1st trip
i've looked at this loop in the past, but when kyle posted last week that the trails were in good condition, it moved up on the list
john took the day off and we set out on dutchman's in the dark
i'm not normally one to hike when it's cold and dark, but it was pretty cool being out there
coffee flat trail was new to me and once you go up a rise, there isn't much elevation change
the trail crosses the creek several times, and we often just stayed in the creek
flowing water at times
nice views of the mountains on both sides
spent some time pondering a visit to buzzard's roost
took little detours to the corral and both windmills, continuing on the path that goes straight ahead at the rock face for a bit
that area is quite green and lush
dripping springs was dripping nicely
hit the intersection with red tank trail and stayed in that creek for awhile
i was pleasantly surprised at this trail given the remarks in some trip logs
there's been some trimming, but i didn't find enough overgrowth to be the least bit annoying
at one spot for several hundred yards we had to bash through some bushes, but they didn't have any stickers so it wasn't bad at all
i really liked the changes in terrain and vegetation, from areas of small trees and grasses to the typical superstition rocks
some ups and down and a little rocky at times, but the views of things like herman's cave and la barge creek made up for it
hit the whiskey springs trail, followed by dutchman's and was now on familiar ground
i like the area around miner's needle
we are happy to report that there are a lot of wildflowers blooming, mostly poppies and some lupine, and occasional indian paintbrush
john will have pictures coming soon
didn't see a soul until almost back to peralta trailhead
good day for this - cool temps and slightly overcast skies
another great day in the supes! thanks, john
